Exam process

The exam process for the NGN NCLEX-RN (Next Generation NCLEX-RN) involves several key steps:

1

Application

Candidates apply to the nursing regulatory body (NRB) in the country where they seek licensure, such as the USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. The NRB reviews the application to determine eligibility to take the NGN NCLEX-RN exam.

2

Authorization to Test (ATT)

Once eligibility is confirmed, candidates receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) from the regulatory body. The ATT includes important details like the test authorization number, candidate identification, and an expiration date by which the exam must be taken.

3

Scheduling the Exam

Candidates must use their Authorization to Test (ATT) to schedule their examination with Pearson VUE, the organization tasked with administering the NCLEX-RN. They can opt for a testing date, time, and site that is most convenient for them.

4

Taking the Exam

On the scheduled day, candidates present themselves at the testing center, where they undergo a process of identity verification before they can take the computerized adaptive test (CAT). This assessment is designed to modify the difficult questions in real-time, reflecting the candidate's performance throughout the examination.

5

Exam Structure

The NGN NCLEX-RN exam includes various question formats such as multiple-choice, multiple-response, fill-in-the-blank, drag-and-drop, and questions that require the candidate to interact with charts and patient records. The test covers four major areas: Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, and Physiological Integrity.

6

Completion

The exam continues until the computer determines with 95% confidence whether the candidate’s ability is above or below the passing standard, or until the maximum number of questions is reached. The exam may end after a minimum of 75 questions or continue up to 145 questions.

7

Results

After completing the exam, candidates receive their results from the NRB, typically within a few days to a few weeks. If successful, the candidate is eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the desired country. If not, the candidate may retake the exam after meeting any reapplication requirements set by the NRB.
